Kolkata Film Festival

with much fanfare, the 17 th kolkata fim festival was officially inaugurated by bollywood  star shahrukh khan.
The World Comes Home. 150 films. 11 venues spread across the city. 2600 delegates. Distinguished international and national guests.  A meaningful interface with the industry at the Film Market. A gala opening ceremony and a grand finale. The 17th edition of Kolkata Film Festival is coming alive on 10th November, 2011 in Kolkata, the city of emotion and of cinema.
It is a festival of emotions where 150 movies of myriad shades will strum every cord of human emotions in their subtlest to the most dramatic fashion. They will touch lives of people around the globe in their truest social, political and emotional context throwing lights in the darkness of soul and beyond.
Ranging from a bouquet of tributes to old masters to a meaningful collection of contemporary world cinema, the 17th edition of the Kolkata Film Festival embodies the spirit of change and of plurality of thought and emotion , and harmonizes the old with the new, the traditional with the contemporary and the far with the near.

A killing rampage shocks Switzerland. At the same time the destinies of some Turkish immigrants and a small German family cross with a picture-perfect Swiss couple as a result of a tragic car accident. While the Turkish family Özel fears for the life of their youngest son, the German couple Marion and Manfred, grieving over the death of their daughter, finally find a common language again. The relationship of the sybaritic couple, Peter and Esther, breaks up over the question of guilt over the accident.

Shekhar, a charming and chivalrous crook, is let off from the jail for the third time. On his rounds one night, eluding the arm of the law, he slips into the house of Rani, a stage actress. Not long ago she was a rich and successful performer: today she is a cripple, her father has left the house and she is hounded by creditor Indrajit Babu. Affection and sympathy flower into love. Shekhar takes over Rani’s life. He pays off the interest on the loan to Indrajit Babu and gifts Rani a necklace as a token of his love. The happiness bubble bursts when Shekhar is arrested for the theft of the necklace. Rani is bitter; Shekhar a changed man, love has waved her magic wand!He escapes from the police, burgles Indrajit Babu’s house for funds to finance Rani’s medical treatment and disappears without letting her know the identity of her benefactor.
